this is your universe

the sky opens...
infinity spills
into the human brain,
an orange is peeled
its scent permeates the skin

into the world of appearances
the world appears
a raindrop slides down your window
and the beginning
is ever what is

we are ancient travelers
who have lost our way
caught like baa-ing sheep
in a bloody crown of thorns
we are lonely
bewildered shores
who have heeded
every siren's black-veiled call

a leaf is not an ocean
and the silver bark is not a tree

a sparrow drab of colour is not an angel bright
and snowflakes fall when the light
is blue enough, for beauty is
the Lover's dance of movement
in the hunger caught between our thighs

and when the presence of the living wind calls its wanton hand
to erase words from the heart of memory,
a poem shall always be a poem,
and the slice of mango in your mouth,
ruby-red and luscious gold
is but a constant drip of ecstasy.

Dear Kailashana

Lovely poem. Favourite lines: "We are ancient travellers who have lost our way..." That whole stanza is beautiful. "a raindrop slides down your window and the beginning is ever what it is" The raindrop shimmered like a diamond in my mind. Very vivid, very Zen. I have printed up this poem and your other work: "She roamed the Earth, He roams even Now". So I can keep them forever, hope you don't mind. Thankyou, Dalton.
