the man with the hat

the man with the hat
walked out onto the stage
stripped me of words
I am bereft,
it must be closing time
for my final act of contrition,
my heart
sings "Halleluyah,
yes oh yes",

the poet in me is blessed
with honest knees
we prayer together
this night,
bring heaven
down with the curved heart
of a mandolin,

let Gabriel weep
with a tenor sax
if it be thy will,
L. Cohen,
dance me away
with a 1000 Hungarian violins,

put  the light back in
my gypsy soul,

let me write another poem.

Dear Anna,

I ended up in Olya's opening of Neopoet. Now I am in the right place, and this is what I have to say: You got ticket(s) to a Leonard Cohen concert and didn't tell me!? This is a turn I just didn't see coming. He's a lucky man. You in attendance. That gravelly voice which just keeps getting better and better. We all should be so able get down on a knee and raise again with Cohenian ease at the age of 75. And, of course, his 1000 Hungarian violins... mutter, mutter. Brian

Well done!

Excellent poem, and the ending is especially superb! You finished with a big bang, indeed the whole poem shows your wonder and your penchant for your favorite composer and his music. Grrreat work! Sincerely, Hugo

Thank you all for reading.

Thank you all for reading. It was a starry, starry night. :-) It really was amazing to see him on bended knees and dancing on and off the stage like a flower child with unseen daises flowing from his grey hair. I love Antony's rendition of *If It Be Your Will*... and yet to hear the Webb sisters sing it was listening to angels sing. http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/band2008.html Life is good. And now I post to my blog poem: "when the olive trees were bulldozed."...on the subject of water.. Much love and Light, Anna There are no strangers in Paradise.
