String Theory

String Theory Some men [who are very, very wise] Say that everything is made of infinitesimal strings. When space, who is in love with these strings, touches one, It trembles with fullnes And plays particles instead of notes. So man and woman, Your bodies arose Like incarnate music from these strings, And you listen to each other With hands, And eyes, And mouths. ~ As always, the lovers knew this Before the very wise men did. I listen to you With hands and eyes and mouths. And when my whole body is open with listening, You slip through my skin, And I finally hear. And when I touch you, Strings I cannot see, Tremble and sing new particles into the world. ~ The lovers knew first. And long after this particular theory has been forgotten, Their fingers will still glissando across another's skin, They will still conduct electricity like a symphony.

interesting

This has a certain charm to it.. I like the part about 'the lovers knew first' this idea that scientists are 'supposedly' just finding out.. I also like how you attempt to capture this complex 'string' theory in the simplicity of poetic form and image.. Contemplating this more.. It makes me wonder how similar string theory is to some of the ideas of Pythagoras.. the harmony of the spheres, the idea that there is a universal vibration.. and why did the lovers know this first? Where did they derive their poetic ideas from? Is it just intuition? Or is there a longer history behind the lovers ideals? I am not sure what this word means 'glissando' Otherwise good stuff here.. makes me wonder..

hello

thanks first and foremost for reading and taking the time out to comment. now to answer your first question...the complex string theory as you say has nothing to do with actual lovers but it is a different take on our gravitational pull towards each other and how they exist even if they are not relative to each other. the ideals that they are one with zero distance and 2 spins together in space. I was just having fun with science and mathematics and 'lovers' putting them together with the genius of music or trying to at least in a poetic way. and I think moonman has a great definition of the word 'gissando' below. hope I cleared up some of my crazy ideals for you lol. loves -shells

Here you are again. How I

Here you are again. How I love to read you. Strings. Theories. We are a viscose bubble, a permeable musical note and even across thousands of miles, we sense and touch intimately. We feel presence. We touch infinity through the penetration of thought and desire. Having been touched we no longer have the same boundaries. Much love, ~A There are no strangers in Paradise.

Diatom Shells...

Glissando... to glide from one musical pitch to another... very fitting, and I too love the way you've taken the complexities that man finds to the more simple levels... the music between lovers... loved this write!

Awesome!

This is quite awesome, the way you've universalised the idea of string theory to something more intimate, that the reasoned, scientific mind has difficulty addressing. That this unity of sorts, this musical metaphor is so easily understood only through the emotions of self. This is wonderfully lyrical in a way. I love your choice of words! Sincerely, -Seek

I appreciate your take on this and how you have it right about the scientists and their one-sided brain cell. -shells

Constellation of strings

Oh lovely, oh magic and oh how it could be so, when the wisdom of lovers is greater than the wisdom of the elements, as when they are as one there are no divisions, no separate items in the whole universe, only that oneness that is the most wonderful sense of BEING that man can ever achieve, Amen and love to the strings in your mind dear Shells with the secret sound in your conch Ann.

Dear Shells

I enjoyed the imagery and content of your poem very much but feel it lost some of its power because the structure does not quite create the flow and tone your words deserve. Below I have tried to show you what i mean by some suggested changes to it. Hope it is of some help. I think the very, very wise men at the beginning detracts somewhat from the more serious tone of the poem but that may just be my take on it lol. with best wishes Keith Some men, we think wise, Say everything's made of infinitesimal strings. When space, who loves such strings, touches one, It trembles with fullness And plays particles, instead of notes. So man and woman, Your bodies arose Like incarnate music from the playing of these strings, And you listen to each other With hands, And eyes, And mouths. ~ Lovers, as always, knew this Before the wise men did. I listen to you With hands and eyes and mouth. So when my whole body is open with listening, You slip through my skin, So I finally hear. And when I touch you, Strings I cannot see, Tremble and sing new particles into the world. ~ The lovers knew first, And when string theory is long forgotten, Their fingers will still glissando across another’s skin, As they conduct their eternal, electric symphony.

professor....

thank you for helping me with the structure. when I have time I think I will tweak with this a little. the part about the wise is supposed to distract a little from the seriousness, I guess that is kinda my style a little humor in the mix. but I definitely like some of the things u suggested. regards to u -shells

Diatom!

Love the whole premise of this one from scientific quantum mechanics, string theory and multi-dimetional metaphase and light-barrier breaking stuff... you have simply mined a star and harnessed the infinatesimal energy of a gluon and transversed the cosmos in wonderful style here! the lovers section is fabulous as we can explore the ocean'd floors and farests stars but never capture the deepness of love... love the word glissando in place of glide. You empower the whole piece in the last line with the neurons and impulses triggered by electrobes that beat out heart and trigger our thoughts and conduct our way through life, hopefully with a smile on our face. Love the whole transendant ethereal feel to this poem... and its grand scale. Brilliantly composed piece and what a great conductor you make with that baton! More music please maestro! Dale :)
