steal this poem II
Don't sacrifice me on your cold-hearted altar
of purpose and significance
do not dismiss me as one of your lesser gods
I am not yours to trifle with--
I am woman, born of fecund earth
do not give me identities
that arise from your temptations
and vexations,
I wear my own face to every masked ball
I attend,
do not bury me in your cave,
in your stone-fisted denial,
I am not gold.
I am not rust.
I am the edge of the eternal sea
lapping into you
with every breath I take.
This poem may beg for your words as the day unfolds.
Blend with me.

I am not yours to trifle with--
I am woman, born of fecund earth
do not give me identities
that arise from your temptations
and vexations,
I wear my own face to every masked ball

This poem may beg for your words as the day unfolds.
Blend with me.
