What Sets Some Apart

Oh, sedated world
through it we're hurled
as we visit on eternity's path,

we sample of hope
while we struggle to cope
with infections, like hatred and wrath.

To all our dismay
there's so little "play"
when addressing life's negative themes,

the drama balloons, here
are all filled with fear
our only escape's in our dreams.

Some can endure
their hearts clean, and pure
as recently fallen snow,

the rest all move on
their smiles all but gone
with fate, the lone entity to know.

Those few, set apart
who smile from the heart
and resemble not, those who are lost,

they've a positive way
to navigate through the day
because they're faithful, no matter the cost.

Dear Docmaverick,

This is a lovely and thoughtful poem. I take it to be, necessarily, a poem of approximations. It is also both a poem of acknowledgement and a pot stirrer, to which, by now you will surmise, I am partial. It is near to a recent theme in one of Richard's poems. Good work. Brian

Dear Doc

Yes, you write what you see and I agree. I find peace most times in my dreams, but the things we try to cope with daily is getting to be invasive. I love your writes of late, very earthy, sometimes sad but gets the mind thinking. Your last 2 stanzas stood out to me and the title is apt. There is a lot that sets one apart from another and your poem is no exception. Well written. Love Lyz. XX
