Waking Up, Dead.
Slipping out of darkness
wondering where I am,
hearing unfamiliar voices
that I know, don't give a damn.
No movement to the left of me
no movement to my right,
I believe I'm in a hospital
but, can't tell if it's day, or night.
I can hear them moving gurneys
and making jokes about who just died,
I am quietly alarmed
although, I take most things in stride.
Tongue-in-cheeck check-out jokes
just probably helps them cope,
though it isn't very funny
to be at the end of your "rope"!
I ended-up with a procedure
that'll set my heartbeat right,
with a pace-maker finally installed
I'm sent up another flight.
Up to Intensive Care, to rest
where I can get "on the mend",
other than their hospital food
I wish this vacation wouldn't end !
But, I've been sent back to my home
to my cats, friends and family,
and I must admit it feels so good
to be blessed so abundantly !
At first I thought I'd be a candidate
for a coffin, by what was said...
"Hey, Carl.....we've got one moving over here...
guess he wasn't really very dead !"
wondering where I am,
hearing unfamiliar voices
that I know, don't give a damn.
No movement to the left of me
no movement to my right,
I believe I'm in a hospital
but, can't tell if it's day, or night.
I can hear them moving gurneys
and making jokes about who just died,
I am quietly alarmed
although, I take most things in stride.
