Night of The Morrigan

In the little church garden
My love is laid
In the dark place of nothingness
The silent place where old loves tryst

By the wall her army
Of cream skinned
Peasant women
Breasts as white and blue
As the moon in Samhain
Cleansed with ashes

From the depths of a circleswomb
The raven from the weal
Garnet suathed by shadows of the fire
That burns into the night
And dances between lovers
Unaquainted with desire

Supple female back
Like a throne
Beneath the ravens silken wing
With keening cries
She culls them into being
Lust flowing from her thighs
White as doveswing
Blackened beneath
A lover's searching eye

hello

I love this poem. It got me too look up the Celtic Raven Goddess, Morrigan. on google. This is what I found: http://www.novareinna.com/guard/morrigan.html which is very interesting an informational. I have an affinity for Ravens, I've always felt close to them. I think it might help the reader to know that Samhain is also All Hallows Even (Halloween.) I loved the title which drew me in. The theme is great and I hope many people read this poem. It flows beautifully and I love the symbolism. My favorite lines are: Supple female back Like a throne Beneath the ravens silken wing With keening cries She culls them into being Lust flowing from her thighs White as doveswing Blackened beneath A lover’s searching eye Always, Cat

Dear Raven

I think this poem is especially telling for you dear Raven, Black Birds were sacred to the Morrignu. Originally this poem made no reference to The Morrigon at all, but to an unspecified female creature, I gave it greater depth throughout the years. john

Love the personal touch

Often there is much written of this emotion and time and it all seems to be in a vieled past. What I loved about this was that you had the personal connection from the start. One thing that I am unsure of in the line As the moon in Samhain I feel the moon should be 'of' Samhain, as Samhain being a period of time and not an entity in itself but you may well have your reasons for choosing to write it this way. Good timing with this one

Dalton to Seabhac

Thankyou for your kind words. I agree with your criticism on the line - As the moon in Samhain - I don't really feel sure enough to make the change, maybe I should. This poem is quite old and I wasn't sure if it was really worth reading, but people seem to like it, so thankyou your comments are gold to me. Respect Dalton X
