The Power of the Pack

In the deep of the forest, they prowl,
creeping along together in the black of night.

They howl to the moon, in harmony, soft and mournful
Asking her for guidance on their journey.

The earth is covered with an unforgiving frost,
the sky showing no signs of ever clearing.

Will they survive the winter? Will the grass be green again?

The dragga  gazes helpless at his drappa, concern in his gold eyes.
For she is to bring forth the future of the pack.

Tomorrow 's dragga is held within her womb.
They must stop for shelter.

The elders of the pack pray to the ancestors,
Begging them to lead them out of this darkness.

Will they succeed? will there be a tomorrow for our beautiful friends?
Do not worry little ones, for the power of the pack is unstoppable.

The wolves rule the night, they rule the forest.
Spring will come.

Dear Green Eyes:

The poem is really eerie and haunting, wolves are special creatures..The most amazing thing is that they are gregarious, and they go through a lot of travail to survive, just like humans. The pack is their way to fight Chaos, and it's the reason they are still here. Wolves are like poets, in many ways. Now, you made a philosopher, but I like it. And I like your poem, truly. Sincerely, Hugo

wolfs

I like this poem because it elaborates along a story line and its construction has some build up tension and mystery and release the wolves are still in small pockets of woods down our way (where I grew up) and from what the trappers tell me they are pretty large now that they are protected with no longer the bounty on them I have only seen small dog wolf mixes and they were very shy timid creatures but they do look quite different from a dog I read much on them scientific one of the keen points was the power in their jaws to extract the marrow from the toughest of bones crusher on the paw their voice is very beautiful I have never heard it in the wild but only from cd from the library we are domesticating the world one species at a time and those that dont agree perish makes one want to howl in lament
