A Lonely Breath

Let poets then dream and cure their strife,
Let wild lovers wander and enjoy the light of life;

But let me sleep, just sleep true in this night,
In deathlike embrace of slowed breath with no thought of a plight;

No sadness bourne as loneliness descends,
No bitter thoughts in an angry mind for which there must be amends;

Only sleep and slow steady breath in a world not my own,
No countless hours which I inevitably have to spend alone.

Alone and yet you speak to us

in your poem you speak to us and doing so are not alone, but this is a very nice way of putting it. You ask about the pace and I found each line a pace unto itself, I liked its pace. I don't know if its 'right' or whatever the experts say about it, but I liked it as it is. I loved the sleep inducing atmosphere of it and the simplicity of statement too. We feel with you and wish to sleep too, and doing so are alone, with you alone. Love Ann of Norway
