Flawed

When did the flaw seed itself?Conception,Birth,When first told no!From what depthsDid its ugly face show.Newborn as perfect?Universal aweBut was that birthThe very flaw. Growing years tumble byBeing told ‘shut up’No answers to questioned why’sSullen teenagersWith tears emergingFor adulthood they are yearningNot understanding whyBelief in themselves An internal lie Cracks appear as time goes byAge can’t conceal itThe flesh creeps backOn dog eyed sacsThe shrinking frameReveals the cracksThe outer body decay. Within,The light of life is dulledThe light of death beckonsTo make whole againYet!So many truths I want to getPleasures I’ve still to knowI pull away too scared to go With great skillI fill my cracksMy surface seeming smoothForward into life againI portray my happy mood.

I really like this poem, full of subliminal images... it brings back memories. In this line: When first told no! I think that the no! should have parentheses around it. Always, Cat

Good one Cat

You made me work for it ...ha ha-parentheses! O.k. I'll admit my ignorance and I had to look it up.I have to say I find bracketing words a great distraction in poetry unless they are really neccessary.Hmm I will have to think on this one but then how else wil I learn. Thanks Cat Liz

loved your method

of rhetorical questioning... These are the questions of 'everyman' - or at least 'the thinking man' /(woman)Like the way you take us through 'the stages of man' somewhat Shakespearian... and then humour us - by filling in the cracks and portraying 'a happy mood'. Nothing that a good "cover up" won't try! Good piece! Bonita j

Dear Seabhac:

A thoughtful poem indeed, one that I can also relate to. I believe that every human being on earth would have a way to relate to this poem, because flaws are real or just perceived. Perceived flaws, to me, are the most difficult to erradicate. Now, you have made think again...lol. Thank you my good friend, you are getting better and better. Sincerely, Hugo

Ah Hugo

Perceived flaws, yes defiantly the hardest to uproot. It makes us as parents so responsible for the perceptions and environment we raise our children in as our perceptions of self were laid down from conception, through sound and vibration and emotion. Oh dear that makes me think, as a mother that responsibility started with me. Too much thinking here. Hugo thank you for your time and support, it helps. Gentle wishes Liz

Tired confusion

Very apt. The illusion of normality is just that, the process of change always changing. The rules are ...there are no rules. Thanks for the comment
