Frozen In Time.
I remember, in the darkness of night
Belatedly driving the unknown road
Of one of those anonymous places
Always bursting with anonymous faces
Now, this place
It may… or may not
have been on a map.
But it was winter for a fact
The girl by my side warmed my hand,
She stares blankly outside her window
At the trees, flickering in the night air,
Drawing comfort from the countryside
She tried confiding in me once or twice
But I shrugged it off with concentration,
Filled with hurried anticipation.
The roads were ours, empty,
But eventually
We came to a red light.
I jolted hard in my seat,
Clenching the steering wheel tight
She asked what was wrong
And all I could do was stare.
Her gaze pursued mine
Remaining unaware.
And then she gasped.
Masked amongst the black skies
Stood a man shrouded in shadow,
A cold shiver drifted in
Supplied by his eyes
He was watching us,
Towering over the car,
And as if life was in slow motion
The last thing I heard surpass
Was the sweet sound of the breaking glass.
