thief (with a bow to Dan)

I met a thief today,
when least I expected
I had no choice in the matter,
for the thief bore no resemblance
to the usual suspects,
had no distinguishing features
wore no emblems,
spoke no words,
carried no weapon

truth was a hooded stranger,
left me with nothing I could
call my own
not even
my very breath,

the scent of lilacs filled the air,
silence like a curtain fell,
and I, stripped of every burden,
danced....

Bow to Kailashana!

First I get a dedicated poem from Jetz and now this masterpiece...I am either very popular, or you want something!! LOL! This is great, you have described that hooded stranger down to a tee. This is great: "left me with nothing I could call my own not even my very breath" So simple, so perfect! Nice one! Oh to dance when we have lost ALL, what freedom,

Oh what a wonderful way of putting it dear sister. Just wonderful. Reminds me of something like this:- The thief left behind the moon at my window and the other one:- My house burned down now I own a better view of the rising moon.......................not sure who probably poor Issa. Only I once mentioned this one to an insurance man and he said he was not the one to quote that to! Oh to dance when we have lost ALL, what freedom, what irresponsible abandon, what joy of being alive! I too dance when alone as I did when I entered the Piazza San Marco in Venezia, no one there knew me from Adam, so I was as free as I could be, what a most exhilarating feeling of freedom that gave me, a 17 yr. old. In wonderful Italy. Love to you and your dance was great Anna
