Summer's Hum
Summer's Hum
This meadow
quicksilvers day lilies into blossom
and dissolve
spangling the air with pollen
Speak
the language of summer—
her hieroglyphics of sunlight
are written everywhere
to illumine the wild flowers
and the darting of wings
These flowers will be homed
and honeyed
long before
cool pine forests,
and the dark murmurs of brooks
scent the air.
Till then, listen to the bird calls, the children's laughter
brimming over
the wild rose bushes.
