Encountering Rain

Slowing down to see the storm
I feel the need to check my senses
everyone else is on the run
but I let her touch me...
ask her questions

a celebration
of water dancing
storm soaked
in life drippings

I can't explain it.

Is it a thirst to be watered
or a washing I need
maybe it's just rain magic
sprinkled
in a life giving breeze

but somehow
I'm stuck in surreal
with my over-active feel

and it sounds strange
"even to me"

You, my Moonman friend have been seduced by the clouds...

I adore this Richard!!! Really love it, partly for the write itself & partly for the joy of the experience & I know it so well that sense of an almost "posessed" feeling, a drag that hold you in the rain when common sense (& everybody else) say go where it's dry. You, my Moonman friend have been seduced by the clouds... hah hah never thought of it like that, but I have felt the very thing you describe 7 felt just as perplexed (though I surrendered quicker than you I think, floozy I must be!) Lovely write Richard, just went straight to my heart... might I offer that I feel the last line is superfluous to the poem (could you add it as a note instead)... otherwise great as is. I am still catching up after absense, but this is such a pleasure to find xx Cheers Anni~ "Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body". ~Elizabeth Stone

Anni...

thank you so much, I am glad you know the feeling... it doesn't surprise me one bit that you do... I love the rain sometimes so much I will just stand in it like some crazy with everyone looking and pointing... that just makes it more enjoyable for me... lol thanks and it is good to see you again, and you are right... the ending needs some work... I wanted to put this out there and see what others thought about it... you know how you get stuck and feel like you can't fix it without ruining it, well I think that was where I was with this write. thanks for the feedback Anni. Dear Moonman

Words of yearning, great roll off the tongue. Loved the way you put into mind, standing with arms outstretched towards the rain. I enjoyed reading this poem. Nice to see u back. Love Lyz. XX

Orphani...

Now that is some great feedback... I thank you so much for it because I couldn't agree more, well, not with the part where I'm better than that, but with the rating and the fact that it started strong and fell flat... I feel the same way about it, have never been too happy with it except for the beginning... it has sat there wanting me to do something with it for quite a while... thank you thank you and thank you Richard

Always a pleasure, Richard!

Although I haven't read nor commented on much of your work, it is truly a poetic blessing when I run across a gem of yours! This one, as Orphani mentioned, could use a bit of a tune-up, but none-the-less, it signifies your dedication to the genre and your unique take on life's little pleasures!

Encountering Rain

Richard Well this is the best place to be. I do my crying in the rain. I have written a few poems on this. I love the electricity of the storm waiting to ignite but also the gently rain mixing with my tears refreshing my spirit anew amazing my friend Electric blue

This could...

This could almost be two poems. The first half is strong enough to stand alone.[ending with: I can't explain it.] Just my take, but you might try to use what is left to make another poem. Does that help? Glad you posted it. Anxious to see what you might do with it. Gee.

Richard!

I'll take what they call "cliches" - as I see your wording as appropriate to the mid way mark! What lost me a bit were the last two stanzas: I'm stuck in surreal (adj?)with my "over-active" feel... both descriptions look like adjective/adverbial clauses looking for nouns... At least to me they do! Interesting, refreshing theme though! Bonita j

Boni...

thank you for your look at this work in progress... I am guilty of abusing the language rules to make adjectives nouns, sometimes it works, and as you can see, sometimes it doesn't... lol... I'll work on it! thanks Richard

Hi There, Richard

Well, I loved this a lot. 'I can't explain it', to quote the poet. 'I’m stuck in surreal with my over-active feel' That line is 'too cool for school', to quote Stephen King, The rain, once you surrender, can be quite enchanting, especially if it's warm (a better chance you have in your southern location). I remember it would rain every day around 4pm in Honolulu in October or so. It was wonderful 70 degree rain---and then a rainbow. Perfect. Not quite so perfect in N. Dakota when the wind is blowing it sideways. On the stars---do you really like 3's---I don't. The poem is worth at least a 4. Wish we could go back to the old way of averaging the numbers. It was more honest. Love you writing, Richard. You touch so many subjects in so many ways. Always, Deelilah

Hi Dee...

too cool for school...lol, thanks, I kinda liked the little line too. You are so right about the rain, the original title for this was "summer rain" lol, I am not too fond of getting caught in a winter rain... cold and wet, ooooh, I'm shivering now just thinking about it. It is raining right now, coming down hard on the roof, such a relaxing sound... I wonder if it comes from ancient times when warriors may have taken a break on rainy nights. thanks Dee... glad you are here with me Richard

I do not!

I just write different. Seems my face has a way of making people go sideways. LOL Probably to keep from looking at it any longer than they have to. LOL ~ Gee

Moonman

The "meanings" of the rain, the magic of it, even when a storm shakes the world, it's always a nice feeling. Great poem, nicely crafted, superb! Sincerely, Hugo

That was a walk on the side

That was a walk on the side of cool Moonman, "Maybe it's just rain Magic", You had me like butter, I just love the Rain and your smooth and 'sensual' style. Together they are like moonbeams of silver reflecting off your adoring flock with your refreshing "life giving breeze". I shall float about the afternoon thinking of my soggy rain as "Rain magic" now. Thanks for the pep poem Richard, hehe. Julie D.D. Congrats on spotlight to! Glad I caught it!

Hi Julie...

glad you liked it, so many times people are disgusted with the rain... can't do anything outside, ruins their plans... oh well, we wouldn't be alive without it... ehhh. thanks for your great comment on this piece. Richard

Rain

I bought a conservatory, simply so I could sit in it and listen to the rain pond against the roof. I find my mind is at it's most relaxed whilst enjoying rain. I could really feel this piece. Can you explain to me how I can post my work 'for members only'...you know why. Thanks and great write. I must invite you over for a Jack Daniels and a good storm. I know I read your comment because I remember sending you the instructions on how to "members only"... I too love the rain, it can relax me when nothing else will. I would love to share a good storm with you, and maybe a shot of Jack, two, and I will want the third one... and then, oh well, I'm somebody else. Richard

Richard

You never cease to amaze me with your poetry. Every piece of yours has always touched me deeply and made me remember an experience of my own. This one reminds me of a time when I was fourteen and it was raining. A big beautiful Summer shower, and I was laughing, twirling, dancing and splashing in the forming puddles. My Mother came to the door, yelling at me and telling me that I was too old to act like that. In my heart of hearts, to this day, I believe we are never to old of spirit to celebrate the miracles of life. Thanks for reminding me. Always, Cat

a gentle visual that exudes power

rain magic sprinkled in a life giving breeze Now that is a gentle visual that exudes power. To think something so delicate could have so much effect. I love the rain, its feel, its touch. And a warm rain on the face is even more enchanting. It has its own tender music - as does this poem. I enjoyed the very much. ~Pamela

thank you very much for reading this one, and bringing to my attention how slack I have become, there are several comments here I wasn't even aware of... I've seen your name but as yet have not read any of your pieces, slack again, sorry, but let me offer you a warm welcome to the site now and I will surely be reading your poems... thanks again!
