No Mans Land
No Mans Land
a woman is lost-- she has been
walking in the rain for an hour
finally
defeated
she steps into a gas station
the man behind the counter is a stigmatic
the woman averts her eyes politely
having been taught
not to stare at people with disabilities
she asks him for directions
he holds out the palm of his hand
like a map
And points to the nail-wound in the center
"you are here,"
he says
