Danse Macabre (Inspired by Bonitaj's poem Dance Of The Macabre)

Danse Macabre

Without you I would
cease to exist.
Long have I pursued
your movements of sheer
perfection and splendor.
Like a kite soaring
and dipping in
the air currents,
you take me flying
on a heady ride
of child-like abandon
which I remember
before my corruptive
descent into depravity.
If I could, I would
engage you in the
Danse Macabre,
But you are too
cunning in your
innocence to be
lured to your death.
A shame to be sure,
for at last we could
hold each other in
the glow of our
ultimate exhalation.
What grand diversion;
to waltz to our deaths.

this is what my dictionary has to say about  "Danse Macabre."
horribly gruesome: including gruesome and horrific details of death and decay

[15th century. From French (danse) macabre, a dance in which Death lured people to dance until they dropped dead. Of uncertain origin: probably an alteration of danse Macabé, a translation of medieval Latin chorea Machabaeorum, “dance of the Maccabees,” originally probably a representation of the slaughter of the Maccabees in a medieval mystery play.]

Great poem Cat

The sounds and rythm of your poem are excellent. You have exhausted the meaning of death in a few lines, which I consider some of your best. Best Regards, Hugo

hello Hugo

Thank you very much for your high praise of my work. With my depression and OCD, I have given death much thought over the years. I'm glad you liked it. Always, Cat

Wow.

Dear Cat, this is awesome, and I love how you interpret for us.I have heard about the Dance of the Maccabees, many years ago, but I will admit, reading, I did not affiliate it with your write, until the end of course. All the questions you have asked of the reader, my answer is,WOW. I just love how most of you get that picture into the head, like, I don't know, like I am there watching. Loved it. Death is a story in itself and you seem to have told it beautifully. Lyz.x.

hello Lyz

Thank you so much for reading and your in-depth comment on my little piece. This poem will probably be in my next book, if my publisher agrees to publish a sequel to "The Book Of Styx." I'm always raiding my dictionary and encyclopedia for information, LOL! Always, Cat

This is outstanding Caitlin!

Love how you've taken the theme and run with it! At the speed of light I might add! Splendid portrayal to me - of one descending into madness "which I remember before my corruptive descent into depravity." Then there is the ultimate lure of Thanatos: "for at last we could hold each other in the glow of our ultimate exhalation. What grand diversion; to waltz to our deaths." Brilliant piece and I'm glad you got the inspiration from my meagre title! Boni

Dearest Jayne

You always give the nicest, sweetest comments. I don't know if you can ever know just how much they mean to me. You always brighten my day. I am so depressed right now. I don't know if it is the steroids, or the crap going on here, and losing so many good people, or maybe it is both. Did you know that Chuck (Barb's dad) is gone? I still don't have my computer back and the repair tech said that he still hadn't gotten to it, since two Monday's ago. If things get much worse for me today, I will have to call Steve home. I'm going over to look at your poetry now, but then I'm probably not going to stick around. Love, Cat

Great poem

Cat. The title immediately reminded me of Stephen King's sometimes great and sometimes terrible study of the horror genre in both book and film, "Danse Macabre." I remember all those images of skeletons dancing, etc, which fits perfectly with your description of the ritual. My absolute favorite part here: If I could, I would/engage you in the/Danse Macabre/But you are too cunning in your/innocence to be lured to your death." A gorgeous straddling of the thin line between purity and defilement. GB

hello

Thank you for your insightful review of this poem. I do, on occasion read Stephen King, and Dean Koontz, too. I feel honored to have my poem compared to one of the greats! Glad you enjoyed this piece. Always, Cat p.s. I like your new picture... a great man
