with his little
acid tongue
kept everyone
on their toes
spoke his mind
to much dismay
of some
sensitive ones
come back
weirdelf
we miss your
tangy bite
miss you
telling me
I can't write
you never
kept me
in the dark
although
sometimes
I was scared
of your bite
you would
put me
on the
pedestal
when you
liked my work
and drop me
in the pit
when it was shit
come back
for more
just to
send me
to the floor
I don't know
what you did
to get
the big ban
but if you
play your
cards right
you'll be let
out of the can...

my thoughts exactly on this subject. bring him back! my opinion is i don't care who he offended this is the internet, if they dont like something....they could always stop reading it its like people that complain about television shows.. how fucking hard could it be to change the channel if they don't like what theyre seein' weirdelf was one of the poets that made me feel welcome here and its well weak he's been banned coz someone was too precious to stop reading something they didn't like. they can protect their delicate sensibilities by turning the fuck away. ♣ pea ess. 5 stars and two thumbs up... i really liked this poem.. im sure jess would be proud.

Have you sent this precious little rant to Jess? Thank you for doing something I should have and will, once I can get beyond my own anger & frustration. I once mentioned that he reminded me of Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan, (both Brits, how quaint!). They may be booed by the audience, but you know that when they say they like you, your art, or stand in ovation, that it is something. Neither will stand for mediocrity. ~A

I have sent this to Jess, he's gone underground. Poetry is his life and he loved this site. I feel sorry for people who just don't think before they spray their venom to destroy others! Jess has an enormous capacity for compassion and constructive/destructive criticism and people just need to learn to accept it!! You can't grow without it!! Fleur

And Boss hit the nail right on the head. We have over 3000+ members, someone is bound to get offended at something along the way. That's the fact of life. Granted, the religious slurs were a bit much, but you've got to take the bad with the good. If you don't agree with him, or his views, just ignore him. Life's too short to raise a stink over who said what. I would have thought that someone with a name PrayersbyPatty would have had some compassion ??? but then I am not always right ;) As another who suffers with a mental Illness I thought I should answer you .... Imagine if John Forbes Nash's wife had left HIM to rot in an asylum ? where would the world of business be today and thats just one example , Jess doesn't have a softly softly approach , he has the softness of a sledgehammer ? but hand in hand with his mind hes a brilliant man , I dont think Jess has the support that John had with his wife , its up to us his friends to support him though what must be a shattering time in his life.. I do not condone what Jess said to you but as an adult and I am guessing a christian I would have thought that you might have shown a kindness and wondered why Jess would say that to you?,I just wish Jess could come back and people might show some compassion, If It wasnt for my father and my partner I wouldnt be here talking to you today i would be bouncing off the walls of some institution, There are 3000+ writers here and we are all allowed the freedom of speach you showed poor character by giving Fleur one star for something she obviously felt strongly about, I have never weighed into a disagreement at Neopoet but after your poor form and the rudeness on Fleurs poem? I knew the poem would engender controversy. Which is the essence of what Jess is (or isn't) going full circle. Every one has a right to their own opinion, and as far as I know, I have never seen horns or wings on anyone here. For me, life is about seeing the glass half full, seeing the best in everyone. I'm just learning to see the glass half empty, seeing the worst. Whatever Jess did or didn't do (this is called gossip, btw--talking about someone who isn't here), he's being *punished* for his *behaviour*. That should be enough. Peace out. ~A

Comments no matter what there were. He was a great supporter of the site. I don't Know or didn't know we were in to banding for commenting. I thought that is what this site is all about! As to the religious slurs I take them with a grain of sand or salt but, we are all intitled to speak our minds and debate. I perfer to do it on my own writes pages Or in the forums or blogs though. He is an out spoken gent who holds a lot of feeling and has a true poets heart and he backs off accordingly almost always! Bring him back ! Bring him back! or at the very least repost his comments and Then hold a an open vote to the matter. A band should only be for indangering the site itself not the feelings of those of us who are here to better are craft and enjoy the others who are trying to learn. Jess could be a little rough but, such is life and we poets reflect life and feelings? We will be scraped once an a while, we should be a little more surly like that old elf! For I believe he believed in Poetry and its advancment to those who would believe. Donnie/ Sinbad the Sailor Man Besides now who am I gonna dispute with? P.s. At the very least, he is a brilliant person with much to offer. If he wants to be here, he should be here, because he's not crazy and he's not dangerous. A personality oddity, probably. So what! I like him. If the suspension is temporary, I don't know why all of his writings have been deleted. A huge history of this site is missing, and that right there is what is downright kooky. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ (hearts for you, Jess the Weirdelf)

My Two Bob's Worth.

I hope no one minds, never read what has taken the interest of so many,I don't think I have, but, by this,the point has been made,a bloody great write if it has caused so much dialogue about it.Should be spotlighted, discussed, good or bad, look past any offense, read between the lines and the poet, who just like us all,wrote maybe from his head instead of heart this time,bought back.But what about all his other writes? were they not good enough?I have read a few of other poets work, that I thought offensive, read but never commented, comments can be harsh but hey,read, comment, reply or not. It is called choice,react or not,It is called freedom of speech, which we are using now, No different. I think Fleur, who has stood up and defensively from the heart wrote for one who is not here to defend, apologize,or explain why, makes for a friend indeed, and I thought this site was to make friends and give all who are interested, a part hidden in ourselves. Good on u Fleur and all the others who have stood up for this,ostrisized friend to most of u,yet, human just the same as I hope we are. Lyz

...I thought you did a fine and reasonable job with this piece. Personally, I wasn't privy at the time of his "getting ghost"...so what I thought was, that I had been writing "shit", and that's why he wasn't commenting ! CRaZy ! Great poem, Jess was a friend and love helping people. He should me how to write better poetry, comment, and learn from the writing of others. Some people will only tell you how to do stuff, but Jess would show you how if you couldn't get it. His way of commenting showed me how not to take offense to every word. His harshness was cruel, but I learn to not be so sensitive, but to ask for understanding where I could not see it and look for the meaning behind his words. It was one of a caring person. I shy away from controversy and tend not to comment on them. Just to say Jess had a good heart and wanted the best for the site in spite of his mental illness. You wrote a nice tribute to Jess, and that is commendable. Those of us who considered Jess a friend can express that. I agree negative talk toward him on your poem is not right, he has been punish for his behavior. BUT, as a previous member of the AEC, I cannot in good conscience participate in an open vote against them, which is what this will be doing. They do a good work improving the site and keeping it functioning effectively so we can express ourselves in poetry while learning from each other. It's hard work and hard decisions is necessary sometimes. I spent hours talking with Jess by email before his final banned and he says he is okay about it. After talking with him, in my opinion, he needs the time away. When he feels well enough mentally he may come back, but I would leave that up to him and accept the AEC decision, he did. He says if any want to contact him he is on Facebook under his name. Jess Tapper. Just my opinions BTW; I like your hair cut. I have a short cut too and thinking about combing it in the style you have. It is already comb in that style, except I have a swoop bang comb to the right. Great Poem and use of our right of freedom of speech,we are not in the dark ages and this site is not the spanish inquisition we have fought long and hard for this right and weirdelf was definately a supporter i know because he was a friend of mine on this site and gave me many inspiring words i dont think jess is the only one to be punished by this bann for his friends suffer the loss of him as clearly shown here, it is a sad day indeed after being gone for a while to find this dear friend gone Kudos fleur for your couragous and inspiring work of art ,Jess would be proud Lacy Where power corrupts,poetry cleanses.

To all who have been so kind

I thank you from the bottomless pit of my heart and hope that none of us forget Weirdelf. Maybe a few more poems about him would keep his memory alive or a mass vote to get him back!!! I am so gobsmacked at the response to my little work and did the victory dance when I made the spotlight for the first time since being on this site (2007) I love all and some less. But we all have to remember that this is a workshop and not a mud slinging arena! much love and and respect :)fleur

I mostly likely should propose this question directly to the AEC, but I thought I'd ask here, where many of us seem to have congregated. Jess has been *punished*. I suspect he is content having the *time off/out* no matter how much he loves NEOPOET, POETRY and POETS. However, WHY ON EARTH PUNISH ALL OF US WITH REMOVING EVERY STITCH OF HIM EXCEPT WHAT WE HOLD IN OUR MEMORIES? Has this been done before? If not, why now? If so, that's really really unnecessary, unusual and cruel punishment. ~A

Marie, you certainly are more observant than I then, esp. since AFAIK you arrived here at Neo at the end of July. So you bring up a question for me: you are privy to info I'm not or you have been here under another name. In either case, it doesn't matter much.. I suppose with poetry, copyrights, etc. the best thing to do IS to remove all poetry if banned... however, it's kind of silly to take out conversational dialogue and have no context. Just to let everyone know, Jess is ok, and he's working on stuff in his field... Good for him!! ~A

Yes, I'm a very observant person. Yes, I'm privy to info you're not. No, I have never been here under another name. Yes, I arrived here as a member in late July, but I've been watching Neopoet as a nonmember for a couple of years or so. And I agree that the removal of conversational dialogue disrupts context all over the site. Dang, I wish I had back those wonderful comments Jess the Weirdelf left on my Night Swim page!! He said lyrical ... said he didn't even throw a firecracker ...

Hey man,

long time no hear from, where is your next post. Thanks for the stars. When Jess and I worked together at the bookshop he was always quiet and very polite but had a wicked sense of humor and when he left, the place died. But when he was suspended from this site it got really really really really reaaaallllyyyy quuuieet!!!! I really missed his bitey criticism and his REAL heart. Bout time you showed your face, but where is your poems, I want to read and share with everyone here, people are waiting!! :)fleur xxxx

your poem is quite the little beauty, and as one of Jess' friends, it makes me sad... In answer to Anna's question: Yes, removing every trace of the suspended member is the custom. I have altered my own comments in the past when that happened, but will not do so with my answers to Jess' comments, because I do hope he will be back. PLEASE NOTE: ALL OF THE ABOVE IS MY PRIVATE OPINION AND IN NO WAY AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE AEC. I would like to say on behalf of the AEC that we are not talking about "punishment" here, and would also like to express my sincerest regrets that we cannot answer your questions why Jess is gone from the site. It has been - and still is - the AEC's practice not to talk about individual members and what they may have done or not in public, and neither will we talk about a member's mistakes or offences outside of the AEC. Just in case that someone cannot imagine why: We do this to protect the member's - or former member's - privacy, ESPECIALLY if the member in question has only been suspended temporarily and can be expected to come back. Well I'm back, and got a real blast out of reading all this.

Thanks Fleur, Aussies know what mateship is. But hey, I couldn't comment then but the AEC were exactly right to suspend me when they did, I had gone off the deep end, become just destructive to myself and others. I was even part of putting in place the guidelines and procedures that got me suspended, ironic much. I am truly deeply sorry for the hurt and harm I caused. Needed the time away. And I'm back!
