Reaper's Promise

Fear ye not...
'tis nothing personal
as, sooner or later,
we all must make
the long crossing
over the river
of midnight black.
Nowhere to run,
hiding is futile.
Soon enough we
will feel his
shadowy touch.
Grim comes to
claim us all
when our stalks
of wheat are ripe,
he wields his scythe
with deadly command,
cutting us cleanly,
swiftly down.
As surely as day
is followed by night,
We are the harvest
as he is the
Harvester of Souls.

Dear Cat

Those words are so well placed, and so harmonious, that to me they seem taking flight from the Bhagavad Gita, a great and symbolic work of art. Regards, Hugo

Dear Candlewitch.

Loved it, and between the title, flow etc, I cannot see any fault. I read it a couple of times out loud and to me it is awesome. Thank you, Lyz.

I didn't take it like that at all, I was referring to it biting us all in the end, thank you for your genuine concern and again, I loved this on the "Edge" poem... thanks Cat, you are a gem! Richard

Hmmmm.

I find it interesting you choose to use the line 'the long crossing over the river'...I have never looked at it that way...I agree with the 'of midnight black'. I like it when a poem goes against the way I understand things...it opens new avenues to my mind. Great piece. I would of liked it to have been much much longer so I can understand more of where your head is in respect of death. Maybe a Part II? kindest regards, HS

Dear HS

Thank you for reading and commenting on my poem "Reaper's Promise." Maybe someday I will write a part #2, but for now this is all there is. This poem is by my male alter ego, Edge, who writes a lot of very dark poetry. My publishing name is Eddy Styx, and I have a book of dark poetry out by Sam's Dot publishing, on the genre mall. My book, titled, The Book Of Styx, can be found here: http://www.genremall.com/new.htm On death I personally believe in reincarnation and Karma. Always, Cat

very well done

Very well done....my son, who says he sees spirits talks about the grim reaper frequently. what a great description of his purpose.

hello!

I have seen my fair share of spirits, too, starting at a very tender age. But no one believed me and my Grandmother said I was evil and it was really the Devil I was seeing and talking to, which led to beatings and having to listen to her read the bible over me for what seemed like hours at a time. I'm glad your son has an enlightened mother to care for him. Thank you for reading and commenting. Nice to see you. Always, Cat

WOW

Cat, Dear heart, lovely piece of work. I really enjoyed this piece a great deal. Fear ye not… ‘tis nothing personal as, sooner or later, we all must make the long crossing over the river of midnight black. That is the strongest stanza in this piece. Or at least it is to me. Loved the flow of your work. Nice movement to it. I have missed reading your work. All my absolute best! DS Baker

That black river crossing

That black river crossing just sent little chills up my spine. Such a dark write, but then, that is Edge! Creepy, but in a good way. I hope to never see that river. ps. I keep wanting to put 'bounty' in 'harvests' place in the closing lines, but that's just me. ~Jess K. ----------------------- "I called out of work because of anal euphoric myopia: I couldn't see my happy ass being there...."

Dear Jess-Dwarf

I'm not real jazzed about ever seeing that River, myself. You've made a good suggestion, and I will keep it in mind. Thanks for reading. Always, Cat

clear cut

used to use a chainsaw and chipper on commercial line cutting up in the bucket trimming near the phone lines the heat of day all that racket mowing down strips of forest and then working on places where the feilds were being prepared for food for animals round bales of hay or straw the smoothness in the purpose revelaed your poems are always examinations of wonder for me and this one is no less Thank You
