My Chair

My Chair

My chair has given me the freedom

to go out alone

It has allowed me to go to school

To bath alone and to see to my toileting needs.

My chair has made it possible

for me to cook and clean.

Because of my chair I can sit

Outside and just be.

I can listen to the sounds of the world.

It is my chair that lets me travel,

with only myself, no companion

Just me.

It is my chair that holds me captive.

My chair is with me always.

I can go nowhere with out my chair.

This chair of mine is my constant companion.

My chair sleeps beside me,

Moves with me, it is my third wheel

In this life.

I would be a different me

Without this chair.

This chair is never without me.

I can do nothing without my chair.

I am never without my chair!

hello Dana

I am so glad that you have your chair! what a great poem, and it gives the reader a little more insight into your life and the elements that make up "you" I too, have a chair, I only use it when I go out and have to go a great distance, such as to the mall shopping. My knees are very bad and I can't walk very far. I am not yet ready for knee replacements. Always, Cat

The chair

Hello Cat, I am certain that you understand the love hate relationship I have with my chair.I have had a chair for 33 years. I can not stand or walk at all since that time so long ago. Sometimes it seems a dream that I did ever. I have a condition called Dermatomyositis. It is an autoimmune disorder that began when I was six. I use my chair everyday. Its my body extention and sometimes my freedom, other times my jailer. I wrote that poem a few years ago when I was finding the Phoenix in me. I was always grateful for my chairs( I am hard on them). Sometimes however I felt they held me back. That I have found is not true. I send prayers and blessings on your knees Cat. Be blessed. As always thanks for taking the time to comment. Dana

Dana

Thank you for the blessings :) I can always use them. Yes I can understand the twin relationship love/hate between us and the chair. What I really hate is that my hubby has to push my chair and many people talk to him and look down on me like I were some kind of pet. Thanks for explaining your situation for my clarification. You be blessed too. Always, Cat

Hello Cat

I can relate to the feeling of being a pet or someone of lower intelligence. People tend to think if your legs dont work then there is is problem with your mind or comprehension. They talk slow to you when they do talk to you. I use to feel slighted by this. I silently bless them now and continue on my way in my power chair. Nothing to be done for it I guess. Just keep blessing them. Dana

freedom

my work in the part day is to craft or help in the process of making braces and arch supports of those whom need the assistance of the devices for mobility I am not the tech I merely craft and sculpt the plaster in the directed way I have been trained for the techs to make forms for these amazing devices they further create straps and hinges and fit and adjust at the lab/office I am blessed to be able to get around well enough but this poem has given me the humble perspective of the joy it is to have the use of a chair to get around to go outside and see and feel from beyond the walls an amazing honest write Dana
