suddenly

The inner flame needs no courage to burn

black rain fell
the earth swallowed
me whole
and I stood my ground,
green and tender

alone I walked
in daylight's fallow truth
a haunted violin
betrayed my presence,

I have seen the
last rose of summer
let the scent
steal me away,

I have seen
a shimmering leaf
how it glorifies death
in a fierce burst
of colour,

suddenly
the warm glow of home
is very near.

Anna

This deeply meaningful piece is wonderful. I can very much relate to it, being over fifty, my mortality is so much more of a reality. favorite lines are: I have seen a shimmering leaf how it glorifies death in a fierce burst of colour, suddenly the warm glow of home is very near. Always, Cat

Jayne, a mind is a terrible

Jayne, a mind is a terrible thing to blow... I tend to think of other things, if memory serves me right. ;-) Thanks Cat & K... love fall, I was born on the first day of Autumn... Cleveland winters are usually brutal though this July has been the coldest on record. I don't look forward to winter all alone, once again. But so it goes. Spring is not far behind then. ~A

I have… She has taken me

I have... She has taken me on a solitary Path, knowing true intimacy, ecstasy beyond anything I could have imagined. THAT is available to all. Thank God. However, I am human. With all my human frailties, Beloved K. ~A

Seize the Day!

I loved reading your poem, and it's still ringing its truth from my computer. Aren't we all gathering flowers while we may? We all suscribe to the great "Dead Poets Society" who taught us the craft one way or another. Thank you indeed, Hugo

Those first two stanzas

are so true. I've been mislabeled as courageous more than once when all I did was survive without a noble sentiment to my name. Good thing the life force is unconscious. I don't know that I would have made it by choice.

dark limerick heart on stilted dark stilletto trees wintered

warmth the sounds of fridge of ticking clock the verb of converse television utterances and winter in her voices full or silent laying layers like thick tear memory like white flesh burial sung to by the howl of winds in bitterest of severity You write superbly I admire!!
