cognitive dissonance

i walk in a world
governed by rules
as shallow-sighted as you

mundane pallid ideals
reflected, so slick
by the stimmed-out-media tube

pumped up to be cool
an extended desire
you're not the gods you dream

jacked into the new
existential tool
be the surface that you seek

i howl at a world
mired in doom
as broken-hearted as you

bland horror i see
gripped at the seams
by the sex-blood-media shrew

torn up by the lies
hide behind cardboard eyes
you're not the beauty you dream

jacked into the new
existential fool
here's my pity - you're the freak

Virg, as usual

I cannot find anything to criticize on this write and I tried. The worst I could do was on this line. as broke hearted as you ( I would have gone with "as broken-hearted as you" Other than that it is a terrific write. you are right

I thought about the - in broken-hearted, and I am going to change that. If I thought it and you thought it, it must be a better fit. and thank you! 8)

*LOL* I would say great minds

But I'm just a poor old dumb country boy. You're the ejicated city slicker. *G* Always a pleasure reading your poetry. Respectfully, Rett: "When I was born I was so surprised I didn't talk for a year and a half." Gracie Allen

hardly!!

I'm a total small-town / country girl 8) I tried the city life. It was eye opening, and now we live in a little tiny village, and my dream is a small acreage complete with gardens, bushes, pastures, many dogs, and alpacas! Oh yes, and maybe a milk cow and some chickens. My husband is the city boy... but I'm working on him! And you aren't a "poor old dumb" anything, my very talented friend 8) Virginia

Wonderful title...

This piece is dark and subversive...always near to my heart. I liked the pacing and brooding tone of it. The title of the piece instantly drew me in, because I'm quite cognizant of my own cognitive dissonance, and perhaps many people are, but just not on a coherent and conscious level.

thank you

The title is always a difficult thing for me, and I very much struggled to find the right title for this piece. When the "aha" moment came, it was a wonderful thing, and I very much appreciate that it did draw you in and fits. Dark and subversive seems to be inherent in my writing, so it is near to my heart also. I wish more people were aware of their own cognitive dissonance, because I think it is a subconscious disorder and leads to much of the inner and outer conflict people encounter. Not that it is always easy being aware...

Thoughtful poetry always

Thoughtful poetry always attracts me. I liked this very intense and pensive write. You've expressed your feelings wonderfully. A good creative write.

thank you

The challenge of combining ideas and thoughts within rhythm and rhyme is what drives me to write. It's always wonderful when someone "gets it." Thank you.
