The Odyssey of a Lotus by Jamie Turney

The Odyssey of a Lotus

By Jamie Turney

The Lotus sought to rise above its unstable beginning to experience life for itself

Setting its sights on things unseen to alter its blindness viewed only in myth

Rescuing itself from certain ruin in hopes of joining things that were living, not just alive

Still afraid of choosing its path

For only one path will bring its freedom

All others will end in the unearthing of its relentless roots

Giving up was not an option for something born from the depths of mud

It pushed its way out of the seed seeking to reach the warmth of the sun

Ding-dong rang the bells of truth off the shores of tomorrow ushering in the new day

The Lotus had learned to care for itself which insured its survival in a world that refused to know its worth

For the hand of Forgiveness held it once gently and greeted its beauty with all the innocence of a child

A Forgiveness which knew that finding the light had been the Lotus' greatest achievement

And its most difficult journey
