The Last Rose Of Summer

I saw it late one autumn eve
bending with the wind
a rose that shined with beauty
so full it's petals finned

I studied it in silence
moving closer as I stared
wondering of its presence
in the brisk October air

never had I seen this
a rose so late in bloom
standing with such brilliance
parting clouds above that loomed

I came within an arms reach
then stopped to take a breath
my mind was warm sensations
it's thoughts were to caress

so velvet it's formation
a perfect moulded vine
that seemed could  stand forever
as a dream could in one's mind

clouds had brushed tree-tops
moving south in swirling mass
with dawn the sun came breaking
spreading rays that seem to cast

this quiet single moment
to watch this rose retire
as this evening was a venture
an almost filled desire

The Last Rose Of Summer
I saw it late last night
it danced in winds beauty reigned
as a diamond burning bright

I am a singer and one of the first songs I ever learned as a child was The Last Rose of Summer and you have captured the beauty of that song in this poem ... this really is beautiful ... Love Jayne x x "We did not change as we grew older; we just became more clearly ourselves. Lynn Hall" ...
