WHITHER THE MOON MAN

WHITHER THE MOON MAN Long time ago, we were toldA day was set aside for everyoneNot to work or do anything at allToil for six days and gather victualsThen eat and rest on the seventhFor the lord is good all the time An old man ran out of kindlingBeing cold, he needed to warm himselfSo he went with his axe to the woodsOn this cold and wet Sunday afternoonHe lifted his axe to strike a log of woodTransfixed, he went high up, over the moon When the children came out to playOn a moonlit Monday eveningThey looked up with exhilaration‘There is someone in the moon’, they said‘We have found the missing old man’But know not how to bring him down Today, men have gone to the moonThey did not find the man with the axeBut a mountain of moon rocks everywhereWhere then was the missing man, they askAnd all those who have also disappearedGrandpa answered, ‘the story is just beginning’

I like the little story Told very well

It grabed me when the grandfather reviled the kicker line. " The story is just beining" I do believe we are in the final gearation, just what type of or length of genaration I do't know but, it is not giving to us to know. Nice read. Donnie/Sinbad We will be finding out soon enough Wither the Moon Man is or was

we were made to believe...

As children. we were told that the dark area we see on the moon is a man with an axe, who worked on a day that it was a taboo to work. The story varies from one narrator to another, but the content is the same. Thank you for the time and the comment, best wishes. T.

I love mystery...

I really enjoyed your storey-telling style in this poem. I followed your words with great interest, wanting to know; what happens next? There's a charming mystery to it all! So... about the old man...? This is great! Raven

Grandpa...

The Old man represents the narrator, the elder who tells the children all sorts of stories during the evening story telling time that was common when I was a child and the moonlight games that preceded them. Thank you for the comments and for your interest in my scribbles. Best wishes. T.

Hi Jayne

Thank you for the comments, for stopping by to read and for your interest in myth. We used to think that there was a man in the moon when we were small. Best wishes. T.
