Lady of Shalott

Lady of Shalott

floating
downstream
the Lady of Shalott

dying to a painter's brushstroke
waits for Godot
three candles and a crucifix

in another time of time
Merlin dreams
a ponderous thing

Flaming June
asleep Leighton's sofa,
drains ambrosia's jeweled-chalice

(rising)

Evening Mood of Bouguereau
black silk, rose-petal soft
swan-neck, alabaster skin

touching earth

Anna, Lady of poetry's magic wands

Anna, Lady of poetry's magic wands You have painted a vision of half-forgotten myths and legends, Rosetti-style with all the trimmings of the 1800's embellishing your short sweet perception, Bougereau's skin-tones are mixed with the rich brocades of scenes past, knights and ladies flit through our minds eye and we are conned into the unearthly dream of your creation. I wasn't quite with the "Leighton's sofa", is that an American addition that I don't understand? I row towards you Anna in a boat of fish-skin-like beauty wrapped in the dreams I had when I was a child, and my mother told us the tales of the Knights of the Round Table, where I was born in Somerset, near Glastonbury, England; and I thank you for making the cobwebs of my mind wander again in those strange evocative places.

Some of my favourite

Some of my favourite images... Leighton's sofa, is a bit of a stretch, in viewing his http://cdn.overstock.com/images/products/L10220599.jpg I imagined his model, asleep on his sofa/divan... As a child I loved fairytales, read everything in the library...even the adult books.. As an incurable romantic, how could I not fall in love with the Arthurian tales? The essence of good. Did you see King Arthur with Clive Owen? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Arthur_(film) I loved it. And it seems I am inexorably linked with the UK... ~A "If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. Merlin

This is delectable, Anna. Beautiful and properly moody ... Maybe you would like "three candles and a crucifix" for a lift in the little beat in that line and for easier pronunciation? Just a tiny suggestion but certainly not necessary. Have you been watching the Merlin show on Sunday nights? I've missed a couple episodes in the past few weeks, but I've seen enough to know it's surprisingly impressive both in its storyline of Merlin as a young man and in its spectacular scenery and photography.

Ha, I had been toying with

Ha, I had been toying with this poem for a couple of days, *and a crucifix* was in the original... must have slipped past me. Thanks for reading... and yes, i caught a couple of episodes... i do so love bravery, goodness, mystery, rising to the occasion (Lady of the Lake-like). Thanks for your vote (of confidence?) I loved to read as a young child..when imagination is honed..I now love movies for the extra dimension... with the advent of computer imaging it's f***ing incredible. Hugs, ~A "If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is wound up in mine, then let us work together."
