Beautifully Broken

Catching with the wind

faint, but breathing now

A presence begins emerging

A familiar formula coalesces

The things that are beautifully broken

draw me closer to you

fleeting

ephemeral

fugitive

Your fear of the maddening sameness of days

Sadness for old shoes on a windowsill

waiting to be rescued from the rain

The scar above your eye that you detest

because it always makes you feel like December

when it speaks to you in the mirror

These resplendently broken things

and soundless shimmers glimpsed

witness the briefest of sparks

Resistance joyously stands down

sponsoring a telling helplessness

for this tenant of your heart

The possibility of abstinence

Stands mute on the killing floor

of love’s libertine capriciousness

Illuminated at the apogee of intimacy

a barrage of desire sounds its’ report

hastening the surrender of solitude

Totally impressive

So many great images, beautifully expressed, forming a gestalt of rich meaning. Love the 3 words stanza, effective device. That 8th stanza is a killer! The possibility of abstinence Stands mute on the killing floor of love’s libertine capriciousness No crit, sorry. It's poetry like this that makes it worth struggling through the dreck. Hey Jess

Thanks for taking the time to comment, and I’m glad you liked it. Wasn’t sure how the 3 word stanza was going to come off, but it seems to have worked. Best Mike

Hey Mike!

'a barrage of desire sounds its’ report hastening the surrender of solitude' Make that "hastening the surrender of all criticism." Stunning piece. Emotive, expansive and very telling! Keep 'em coming :) Boni
