Dance of the Deadwood Trees
Not one disinterested breeze
Gives pause to dance with brittle leaves
That fade upon the dried-out clay
Already scorched from blistered day
Scowling sun defies the shade
To brave his fiery hot tirade
While ragged weeds that did not fall
Before the mowers labored crawl
Bow down in disarrayed salute
As distant cars the air pollute
And silence crumbles to the ground
Before this disenchanted sound
And still no hint of whispered breeze
To dance among the deadwood trees
Gives pause to dance with brittle leaves
That fade upon the dried-out clay
Already scorched from blistered day
Scowling sun defies the shade
To brave his fiery hot tirade
While ragged weeds that did not fall
Before the mowers labored crawl
Bow down in disarrayed salute
As distant cars the air pollute
And silence crumbles to the ground
Before this disenchanted sound
And still no hint of whispered breeze
To dance among the deadwood trees
