JIMMY
JIMMY
Udeme was a neighbour’s son
Who liked coming to our house
With Jimmy, a dog older than him
A man’s best friend, they say, is his dog
Udeme came on this particular day
When we were eating our supper
His mind was on the food we ate
But pretended not interested
So he called to Jimmy the dog
‘Let’s go, I am done today’ he said
So the dog, to the backyard, followed
And ran faster all the way home
Udeme reappeared from the veranda
And came straight to the dinning table
He started eating before he was asked
With a mocking grind and excitement
Halfway into his ‘longer throat’ meal
He told us his tricks with the dog
You see, he said, I deceived Jimmy
And stayed back to eat alone
He put in the picture in a funny way
Because he thought he was smart
‘Nyang Jimmy nsuk ntie mbo mkpo ndia’
High sense in childish game of wit
