Incoherence
You can entertain,
But what happens when you start to sound the same?
The same as these kids freestyling on the corner, you have a flow but no message, double entendres to leave infinite guesses.
But you might as well keep guessing,
finding a piece of coherent emotion is a milkbox carton picture of a needle in a haystack wrapped in a blessing.
We invent invites to battles,
and we call it a beef
but you're starving your listeners serving us something minus the meat.
Record companies invent you being industry cattle,
and forbid bleeding your soul from your hand to the sheet.
Cute similes, metaphors and clever phrases last only in phases of 4/4ths time of 16 bars in most cases,
and as tempting as it is to say something catchy,
I'd rather spark an emotion and make you look at me.
Lyricists stand at a crossroad,
entertain or take a thought-provoking route
to keep people like me from asking what the hell they're talking about.
I want anger, pain, and outlook, make me feel what you just said.
The remainder should be the same thing scribbled in your rhyme book.
Relate to me and stop talking over my head.
You got one in every crowd listening closely to your voice,
and that individual is rare.
When you talk of what they don't know and you don't have,
the beat becomes their choice,
not you,
so why are you jumping around with a mic up there?
