The Lenora Lesson

Lenora was her name
she never knew that I was watching, just the same
but who's to blame?

Many times I've wondered why,
why it was she'd sit and cry
when her beauty and her charm
seemed enough to me, to keep her warm.

Lenora was her name
she rarely saw what was not in the frame
at least she'd claim.

Her sensibilities would guide each day
helping her to understand the way
people seem to do such harm
without ever causing much alarm.

Lenora was her name
sprouting a look that told you she was tame,
no one's to blame;

for who on this earth would understand
why she'd take her life with her own hand
letting all of us believe
she would never up and leave.

Lenora was her name
I'll tell you what, she never wanted this much fame
but still it came,

and as she laid her head down to die
she told herself that she wouldn't cry
for herself or anyone
just because they couldn't buy a gun...

....and Lenora was her name.
