unspoken Word

I hear the voices around me
The words float above me
I have no understanding
of their language.
Words coil and flow
on the breath of others,
that see me as alien.
Their features broad of cheekbone,
long intelligent forehead
Dark shining hair.
In contrast to my fine boned and light haired presence
My deep blue eyes too different in their deep brown gaze.
I feel vulnerable,
different, apart from their world.
Then eyes meet eyes ,
Smiles spread across cultures
A common ground is found
Friendships are formed
In one unspoken voice.

Liz

I have often felt like the isolated alien when amongst a group of people speaking a foreign language. It is so true, that all it takes is the kindness of a smile to dispel the feelings of alienation. A very good write. Always, cat

I ve spending some time

I ve spending some time reading your poetry. I so love what you are writing. Yes I know the feeling you are describing in your poem. The world is much more than we think and everyone should feel different from time to time in order to be able to see the whole picture. I was so happy because of the smile in the end and what a wonderful bridge a smile can be and makes the world shine. Lovely ! Odd Molly

time is the most precious gift to give, thank you

Molly I think we both travel the same thought waves, I have very quickly read a couple of your poems and I loved Forest Lake...I will take the time very soon to give your lovely work the time it deserves. Thank you for your comments, my recent travels inspired me very much and I hope soon to share some more work. Best Wishes Liz

Can I be Devil's advocate?

I looked at this from a different viewpoint and could see this poem searching the afterlife or deeper inside, angels, ghosts or even demons...we share the same unspoken voice with them too...don't we? My demons are my best friends! I am probably way off on this one...I think I try too hard to find hidden meanings where the obvious is punching me right on the nose. great write though. Devils Advocate? A part I'm sure you play well

You are not that far off strangly enough, I was thousands of feet in the air writing this one and about as close as I will get to a heavenly place so yes the surface of my work is often very straight and to the point but there are many levels to thought...thanks for stepping back and seeing the view

A smile can melt even the

A smile can melt even the most hardened hearts, Seabhac. Lovely poem speaks volumes about how far we're willing to go to meet one another. But then again, there's the Cheshire Cat's grin... that melts into nothing, kinda goes along with someone or another's signature line, eh? It's not about scaling new heights, it's always about blurring one's edges, imo. ~A
