As a lot of you probably already know, Senator Feingold from Wisconsin urged Attorney General Eric Holder to start an investigation into the CIA's torture/"interrogation" tactics during the Bush/Cheney administration. To my surprise and to the surprise of many American citizens, this may actually happen. I have myself spent quite a bit of time campaigning for this in my community and trying to get other members of Moveon.org (a Democratic political organization I belong to) and also neighbors to write a letter to Attorney General Holder. I will beg, plead, on my hands and virtual knees that you write a short e-mail to Holder and urge him to do this. He will need all the support he can get. If this does not occur, the American dream will seem to many to have been a fabrication. The past 8 years have been so nightmarish as to suggest an Orwellian takeover of the United States government by criminals. We are still in a state of PTSD as a nation (the conscientious among us, at least) that any of this could ever have happened. The presidency of Richard Nixon pales to the atrocities committed under the watch of Donald Rumsfeld, Alberto Gonzalez, Condoleeza Rice, John Aschroft, and Richard B. Cheney. It is not too much to ask, I don't think, that we give Holder the support he needs. If you feel that you are somehow powerless, that petitions and votes don't matter, just do it as an exercise in creative writing. Please send him a letter.
