Casual Acquaintances
Casual Acquaintances
Like a drop of rain falling from a leaf to the ground
My countenance, now begins to descend
As I look into your eyes, not knowing what to say
Fear palpitates within
As certain death, now born
Takes it's first breath
I stand here alone, contemplating
What shall be left
Of those "good ole times"
We shared, too soon a distant memory
My thoughts interrupted ever so often
By that beeping machine, connected to all of those I.V. lines
Man, I can't stand to look at you like this!
From athletic, energetic, and fun
To lethargic, cynical, and now can't run
No, not even walk
Your thoughts NOW, unknown
Because you also can't talk
Just been hangin' on by a thread
As each day creeps by
I guess you wouldn't have thought how
A couple minutes of pleasure, has caused so many to cry
Some adolescence
Others well of age
If only a choice of abstinence or to use a condom
They'd be turning another page
In their life
Maybe a graduation, marriage, new career of such
Now breathing through a machine
Communicating only by a "clutch"
Squeeze my finger once for YES
OR
Twice for NO
I'm not getting any response
After several attempts
Hey! Do you know I am here with you?
Do you even remember my name?
I guess it Doesn't Matter now
I guess it's all the same
Just thought I'd come and say goodbye
To an acquaintance I once knew
When I heard of your condition
I passed it off as a bad case of the flu
Not wanting to admit AT ALL!
That I could very well be lying here like you
I'm avoiding going to the doctor, been feeling weak for a while now
Man!, I hope I make it through?
Now yes or no doesn't matter at all!
Like a drop of rain falling from a leaf to the ground
My countenance, now begins to descend
As I look into your eyes, not knowing what to say
Fear palpitates within
As certain death, now born
Takes it's first breath
I stand here alone, contemplating
