"Salad"

Layer upon layer
Leaf upon leaf
Man I can't wait
To feel that crunch, in between my teeth

Croutons arranged over here and over there
Salad dressings drizzled in squiggley lines
Intersecting one another, between a pair
Of crisp ripe tomatoes, fresh from the vine

If only my waiter would hurry back
With some more drink
I'm now ready to order something good to eat

Just like a timely intermission
Towards the middle of a play
A salad is just right
No matter the time of day!

Amen, Brother!

Great little tribute to a tasty treat! I too am a big fan of a crisp salad with lots of chopped onions and just plain Apple-Cider-Vinegar for dressing! Yum-Yum!! Nicely done!

I hated veggies as a kid

And I didn't really learn to appreciate the subtleties of salad until my late twenties. I've made up for lost time since. Nice poem, turning attention to 'an unimportant thing.' Precisely what the poet should do for those of us who have forgotten what we see because we see it all the time. Alas, you are somewhat benighted: croutons are the devil's work, and tomatoes that are crisp are only pallid memories of what tomatoes should be. (The tomato became 'zombie fruit' within my lifetime; when I was young, you ate tomato slices with a little salt, and they were like candy, sizzling on your tongue. Sure, you might have had to cut away some soft spots, but what remained was fabulously tasty. Not so today; their hides defy sharp steel, and they taste like red styrofoam, excepting the so-called grape tomatoes, and home-grown cherry tomatoes. Those ain't bad; a little thin in flavor, but tol'able in a salad.) ----------- Mechanically, there's nothin' to comment on, except perhaps the spelling of 'squiggley.' The chell specker says it's wrong, but I think you could leave it as is. Perry

It is a good thing it is almost my lunch time, for you have gone and made me ravenous! Good work! Always, Cat

Yay!

I liked your squiggled dressing lines intersecting and drizzled haphazardly.
