In praise of the mundane

Oh mundane tasks of everydayLet me thank you for your mindfulnessYou fill my head with needful automationIn command of those tasks it has done many times before.I am alive within my headMy bodily functions activatedWorking from their memories.Laying tiles of wool As swathes of light wispiness Rhythmically pulling and flicking the wristLaying down another pieceOn the bed of woolly lovelinessI move around the table dreamilyDeep thoughts beneath the functioningDeeper thoughtsDeeper feelings circle round and roundPushing through the darknessSeeking the core of lightFinding linksFinding fearsThe wool muffles the internal screamingStillness isolating thoughtsAnd when the tears of realisation comeThe wool absorbs many times its own weightStrong in its oneness,Fibre next to fibre

Dear Seabhac

Literature and poetry tends to hit the hill tops and valleys, often missing the places in between. But life's maintenance is often far more important although it also is a rhythm which can stifle or be hummed. I was so pleased to see you took on this topic. The poem becomes stronger as one reads, as the power of the rhythm is revealed. Good topic and good poem. Brian
