Poverty: An Acrostic

Photographs lie in a pile,
Overexposed, just a blur on the
Vice president's floor-
Enticed by corporate greed, [what he took]
Red droplets, humans fell and bled, [what he left]
Thievery at its best, and the poor;
Yearning for just a morsel.

Beautiful Janice

Pverty and its causes well captured. while the rich live it up splurge, waste, loot and plunder the poor wait with the begging bowls yearning, hungering, dying for the morsels Leonard

Leonard, thank you for your support and comments. Frustration, is what I feel when I write of these things. ______________________________________________________ Income-tax forms should be more realistic by allowing the taxpayer to list "Uncle Sam" as a dependent Anonymous

As a general rule,

I dislike acrostics but I did like this. I liked everything about it: the subtle rhymes, the parenthetical asides, the comparison of material and emotional poverty and the skillful way you've woven in the word. For making me appreciate a style I dislike, I feel compelled to give you stars. 4 as a poem overall but it is 5 for an acrostic. (I'm sorry. I do feel acrostics limit, esp. for someone with your skill.)

Arrow, I am not too fond of them myself, but this was submitted for the July contest on a whim. I agree they are too limiting. I appreciate your feedback, It is an important to me. ______________________________________________________ Income-tax forms should be more realistic by allowing the taxpayer to list "Uncle Sam" as a dependent Anonymous

First, meaning an acrostic for you Anna? and Cheney meaning former vice president Dick Cheney? Anyway, thanks for the read~ _____________________________________________________ Income-tax forms should be more realistic by allowing the taxpayer to list "Uncle Sam" as a dependent Anonymous

Janice, first poetic answer

Janice, first poetic answer to an acrostic... (i've done them before) and yes, it was about the former VP... who, I think, has a lot to answer for; I doubt that he'll ever be put to trial... who wants to know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? ~A ...and i fixed the errors. I love this one, I cannot top it, not even going to try. I love how the Poverty is explained so truthfully in the body of the Acroustic. Nice spin. We know who the thiefs are..... You got it right......... Patty

This ...

be one terrific write. Perhaps I'm biased a tad by my political leanings, perhaps not. However (damn those howevers!), if I may, a few edits that I hope don't insult you too awful overmuch (the brackets frame my suggested alterations): Photographs [lie] in a pile, [Overexposed], just a blur on the [Vice president’s] floor[---] Thanx, Chuck PS: You might (but only if you wish) consider recapping the title, as: Poverty an Acrostic, or---better yet---Poverty: An Acrostic

Oops!

I'm afraid your Vicepresident's gotta be two words, as in Vice president's. Sorry about that. I probably wasn't clear enough. (Incidentally, years ago vice president was hyphenated. I'm not sure even approximately when it was changed, but it was ...) Yours with much affection, Chuck

I did not think this poem could get any better but you have somehow managed it. I like the pun on the lie. Reading the comments I think someone helped on this, but that may be what you meant in the first place. all I can say is this is a winner in my book!!!!!!! Patty

an acrostic you did really

an acrostic you did really well.. sometimes these kind of forms can limit the poem and make it loose the depth and soul. Yours did not. I find this very good and also powerful.Remember that everyone can make a sandwich ( The prison angel mexico ) and your words can make a difference , one of the beautiful things with poetry. poetry at its very best and I am amazed. acrostic is one of my least

acrostic is one of my least favourite forms, but i don't mind this one at all. to elaborate; i find most forms limiting in terms of emotion being able to be freely and fully expressed, therefore, reaching the reader can be limited. mind you, i say this with no authority whatsoever...i'm a complete, and limited ( a rather oxymoronic statement!) amateur...it is merely my personal opinion. however, i find your acrostic meaningful and relevant. in a few simple, well chosen words, you've written of a pertinent subject...and written it well. your parentheses give extra oomph.
