really really

==

really
really

sun-flared sky the color
of plaque teethes outward
irritably,

gnaws at rim of night---
and will till sun tires (or dark
gathers strength around

to rout her, put her
down, quench her light), thence to send
her reluctantly

to sleep (having held
the day so long, and grown used
to it, she does not

wish to relinquish
her boasted dominance);

and

so she leaves generous
room for a three-fifths moon to
shine himself bald ... and

a handful of stars
to wink (a sign by them, to
be sure, they really

can't be,
cannot be,
serious)

Dear Charles,

When you turn it on, you do turn it on. This is a wonderful poem. Do you always layer your metaphors? It does seem that way. Which is the opposite of complaint. Brian

shine on Chuck….shine

shine on Chuck....shine on....though I wish ya'll could have seen the golden wash of sunrise meeting the heart-purple, sapphire horizon this morning... I was too blown away to notice anything else but the scent of my yellow honeysuckle. ~A "Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood." T. S. Eliot

Chuck, there’s playfulness

Chuck, there's playfulness here, a comfortable knowing that teasing is ok, I see the scene, the sky, that your poem paints but I sense a marriage, of sorts, a couple who know just how to push each others buttons but can always collapse into laughter and love at the end of the day :) Of course merely my philosophising ;) and the reading this wonderful poem provoked in me, much love Beki xx Ps I like this style of yours, little haikus nearly, which when flowing into each other create a glimpse of a bigger picture, and the humour, that which I've read of you thus far has always succeeded in gaining a smile :) more love Beks x

Am I surprised ...

here. Really didn't expect much favor by others on this one. I think, in response to Brian, that many of my layers of metaphor slither in uninvited by the author. Meaning, in this case, me. In so many words, they just happen. Sort of something out of nothing ... a kind of quantum physics. Which of course I don't understand (at least as much as I'd like). And I mean the qp ... and as well the squatting metaphors. Thanx much, Chuck
