January

January
-------------------------------------------

These winds have passed this way before
I know them like scars
Frozen furrowed fields
Humped in hard packed white
And cold steel in schoolyards
Toungues tasted and stuck fast
Finally set free
Warm water from a blue cup
Accompanied by red nosed laughter
And pointing mittened hands
Mocking
The words wrapped in curling clouds
Afloat in January air
Gathered by frost stung ears
The comfort of being inside
Hot chocolate and heat
Chap stick, warm feet
Then the cold reality
of education........
