A Quiet Wink

A Quiet Wink

A crystalline lattice
Of frozen hopes
Is flared onto the world
By Dawn
Then thawing
It joins awakened dreams

Ignore this as it is just an explanation of the poem's origin.

The August contest, I'm already done with July you slackers, stipulates a poem about winter, free form, consisting of no more than 100 characters.

This is 100 characters exactly.  Your chalenge, if you choose to accept it, is to enter the August contest and abide by the rules.

Other than that, have a ball

A personal affection of mine

Meaning habit or mode of response. I tend to capitalize night, dawn, time, etc when I want to personify them and make them active participants in a poem. Dawn, in this case, is the dawn, alive and full of intent, who is winking at the world as she rises and that wink, full of light and warmth, melts a lattice of dew that had formed overnight, that lattice which is the capture of a thought, hope, or dream. If you've ever watch the sun come up and hit a tree or fence encases in ice, you'll get an idea of the inspiration. Thanks for the comments and questions. --Jonathan Annoying the world, one person at a time (Group discounts available)

Twinkling right back at you!

Lovely written piece, expressing winter in its glory peeping through the criss cross lattice of fence, covered in the winters jewels... How delightful the garden dance as the light of day comes up bringing those icy, glistening delights! With kindest thoughts, prayers and intentions.
