The Painted Lamb

This lamb I am painting
paint is quite thick
the surface is layered
my palette knife is quick

with a flick of the wrist
a woolen coat is at hand
it's a bit of a trick
bringing life to this lamb

with a tiny dry brush
and a little bit of white
I try not to rush for
this lamb is in my sight

a picture of bliss
of one little lamb
fresh from the womb
a fluffy little ram

his eyes half closed
with a flicker of light
to get off the canvas
he'll need all of his might

a dob of molasses
for the mother's brew
nestled in the warm hay
with her breath drew

once ran free in the paddock
looking a lot less thinner
his picture hanging on the wall
then gobbled up in Sundays dinner

Breath drew,

is breathing out or maybe breathing in, I think it can work both ways in poetry. (draw your breath) Dark humor always takes over in the end and sometimes in the middle of my work. Thankyou for your comments and glad you enjoyed the read. I am also glad as it needed to be read!! :)fleur Ps there is about 30 coats of paint in this painting!! I like to build up the surface and give the subject a perspective!

Hello There fm1962

I loved this poem until the last line. I can get involved with the painting, the layers of paint, the bringing to life of this lamb--then Sunday dinner--doesn't work for me. It is so much about the act of bringing to life through the medium of painting that I wanted to have it end on the canvas and not in the oven. Yours, Deelilah PS By what name do wish to be called? And does 1962 indicate a date? In which case you have a miracle fountain of youth or this is an old picture. What's the answer?
