IF I Was!!!!!

If I were a car
I'd be a sturdy 4WD ute
so I would be able to cover rugged terrain

If I were a home
I'd be a homestead
away from the hassle and blister of city folk

If I were a book
I'd be a long intensely historical biography
something you didn't have the guts to put down

If I were a drink
I'd be a Margarita
with my glass dipped in salt to wash away the tears of joy

If I were a boat
I'd be a yacht
built in 1962 and lovingly cared for by racing owner

If I were a song
I'd be a ballad
of wanting  and taking and loosing and wanting and taking and loosing

If I were a suit
I'd be a classic
designed by an Italian great and cut from the most expensive thread

If I were a jewel
I'd be a ruby
uncut and stolen by a high class thief

If I were a painting
I'd be a Scottish landscape
painted by a French woman and owned by a famous American family

If I were,
But
some time in my life I will enjoy these things I were.....

Hi Fleur, there were some great lines here & I loved the way it shows you up. "away from the hassle and blister of city folk" & "If I were a song I’d be a ballad of wanting and taking and loosing and wanting and taking and loosing" though I did wonder if that should be losing, not loosing? Fantastic line that last, got me. Also the line about the salt, to wash away the tears of joy... it disturbed me of course (ever avoiding the negative me, personally... if I can... yes there are lots of down sides to that), but it did so in a powerful way that had me turn things upside down to work through it, & that's always a good thing. Cheers~ Anni ~~~ "Courage, it would seem, is nothing less than the power to overcome danger, misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing to affirm inwardly that life with all its sorrows is good; that everything is meaningful even if in a sense beyond o

Anni,

this is just wonderful, finally someone has realised that they have to turn my work upside down to get what I mean. I love it! You have broken my code. You get 6 yellow stars from me. And thankyou for finally adding me. Yes there are some spelling errors, my dictionary is sick with the flu! damn it. I'll have to get a back up! and so glad you enjoyed it. Thankyou :)fleur

Hi Fleur

A brilliant poem, many of us have "soul full" longings, including me, but I like the determination and positive tone of your poem. I think this poem is well constructed and tells us alot about you. well done Mand

rough dirt roads and fine silk

Many many things. Complexity in simplicity, perhaps your greatest strength as a poet. I would like to show this to young poets who try so hard with so many words, trying to be so profound, and end up saying much less. Cheers, Jess

Why thankyou kind sir,

I remember when I was younger and trying to write with a head full of way too many words and they all wanted to be on the page at the same time. And it is time that will allow them to grace that paper one at a time!!! lol:)fleur
