You joust with honour, good carny (“Ode” no. 6 of a series)
How do we balance our boldness
tug courage from the scars
fold the hurts, and disperse perceived side shots
to greet a new perspective?
It takes a good heart, and the road we grace is wisdom
It requires a sturdy desire to fly the flag of integrity
And, more admirably, it takes the insight that it is the other that matters
That we could be the one to turn the tide and let love flow toward our beaches
(no matter who drew sword first)
And then grace the steed of gentle pride and ride
To the freedom of elation
The liberation of a brightened heart
Interaction that glistens or shimmers, the gorgeous colour of a summer dragonfly
I watched you (more than once)
The slip to sadness
Heard regret and remorse
And in the light of day
Beneath the shining armour
I heard the tale of internal battle with the happy ending
Where generous and brave apology was offered
Mistakes acknowledged and care administered
And then… in glory riding forth, the celebration
The hearts won
Mistakes became the cherished markers of our learning
You know it Gee
“Third time lucky” learner
Transparency your brightest ally,
and so endearing, engendering trust and care
Your shield is warmth and generosity
Your loyalty is binding and precious
And I am proud of you
And blessed to be among those you champion and honour
tug courage from the scars
fold the hurts, and disperse perceived side shots
to greet a new perspective?
It takes a good heart, and the road we grace is wisdom
It requires a sturdy desire to fly the flag of integrity
And, more admirably, it takes the insight that it is the other that matters
