Sweet Melancholy Tears

The teardrops started running down
the pane of my heart's window,
as I remembered you, and I smiled.

Back in the day,
(and I believe it was a Thursday);
I probably took you for granted.

But, this is not so on this day.
For even though we're but a few "smiles" apart,
in my heart of hearts, I know that you are with me.

So, I savor the saltiness of this teardrop
and any more that may follow,
for, I'm grateful that I was allowed to share footprints with you.

Ours was a special kind of "magic"
that comes along but once, in a lifetime
and there's no better example of Lady Fate's best work.

She allowed our paths to cross so effortlessly,,
assisted us in  finding ourselves through each other,
not to mention teaching us both, how to love.

Had we never been able to meet,
It  would never have been feasible
for me to wear this large of a smile throughout my life.

You were but one of the tools used by "the powers that be",
the Universe, if you will...to hone, shape, and fashion me into my present self;
and I thank you for helping to bring me into focus.

Yours is a treasured friendship that is cherish able, to say the least,
stirring up my emotional pool of water 'til it overflowed
spilling it out of my eye, simply by remembering your good nature.

I'm just missing you, no big deal.
I just wish we could turn back the hands of time by hitting "rewind";
but, no worries...for I am a better person because of you,  so thank you for this sweet melancholy tear.

The title was excellent, and you opened very strongly. That energy was successfully carried throughout the write. Eventually a time will come when one doesn't have to look back with bitterness or longing - this time seems to have arrived for you as you learn to let go. Nice writing. ~Jess K. ----------------------- "Flying so high, trying to remember How many cigarettes did I bring along?
