The Sun Shines

The sun shines brightly
on a cold face
The warm rays shimmer on
dead shoulders.
The orbit of heat
in the palm of cool hands
thrown far away to a distant land.

The past behind, lurking but
never leaves
The present here at attention
but does not heed.
The future awakens sleepless eyes
for those alive.

I am hollow, a shell
just bones, skin, muscle and sway
my heart is in the sun
burning with ice that has decided
to stay.
