Your gentle breathing
knees tucked up underneath you
bottom in the air

Witnessing Your Slumber

Snuffling
like a truffle hunter
searching
precious dreams
disco sleeping diva
the joy of
watching you breathe

just witnessing
your slumber

a wriggle in position
now pea on a fork
I simply wonder at you
awestruck by you

sleep gazing
dream chasing
lullaby girl

How lucky are we....

......that you share your writing. "sleep gazing dream chasing lullaby girl" This is sweet and hook laden enough to give me cavities just by saying it outloud and letting it pass by my teeth. This write is excellent and all of its counterparts! -ns

How lucky am I… to get

How lucky am I... to get comments like that! :) Thank you muchly. It's funny, I always feel like my Omi poems (and I think I've said this before to Anni) can never do justice to her or how being her Mum makes me feel (she'll be 2 in September, she's brought and taught me so much, it's just the two of us, I don't know if this lends to the intensity) but I do keep writing and trying :) So happy you're enjoying my work, I'm loving yours. Its incredible

Its incredible to witness the love and commitment in a parent - in their work, in their passions, in a look. It was just my mother and I for the first 7 years of my life. We are incredible friends to this day at nearly 28, thanks in part to those years. -ns

It's wonderful that you and your Mum are still so close, gotta say my own Mum is one of my best friends, and I hope for something similar with my Omi, infact I work at it. Being a parent is an incredible responsiblilty, possibly the hardest but best job I've ever had lol :) And ahhh so much can be said in a look :) thanks for stopping in again ns, I'm liking these mutual visitings :) much love b x

two sweet poems at once... I wonder: Do all small children sleep in the same position? Because I remember my own kids sleeping "knees tucked up underneath (...)/bottom in the air". Do you sometimes feel that children are even more lovely and cute when they sleep than when they're awake? (Especially so when they're very lively and hard to put to sleep, which mine used to be when small.) Much love, ~Nina

Perhaps they do Nina :) Omi is partial to the bum in the air position, but my favourite of hers is the disco sleeping diva, think John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever lol. And it is definitely true that there's a lovely aura around a sleeping child, there's something GOOD about Omi's sleep, she is very lively, like yours were Nina ( I bet you're a great Mum) it's a bit like she's earnt it ,but also I can almost see her sifting through her own experiences of the day, making sense of what she's seen and learnt, getting on with life even as she's sleeping :) I love your comments here Nina, thank you for your continuing support, much love b xx
