Centrepoint

Walking into work this blue sky morning
stopped in my tracks at the lights
looked up throught the trees of Hyde Park
pulled my camera from its bag.
Black smoke billowing from the base
of magnificent Centrepoint Tower
all aghast, everyone around me
cameras and phones in the air
pointed at the black smoke like cloud
circling the base of the tower.
I could hear muttering
of a 9/11 scenario
what foolish talk to start at
this hour. Not here in Sydney!
Continued walking to the city centre
towards the tower
on my path to work.
With one moment of silent joy
hoping maybe it was really serious
and the streets were to be blocked off
which meant I couldn't get to work.
But alas, twelve fire trucks arrived with
no chance of a reprieve.
The only joy I did receive
was congratulations on a shot well shot.
