Too Early the Dawn
His name was Don
and now he's gone,
and oh how he'll be missed;
I do not lie
a nicer guy,
does probably not exist.
Quick to laugh
he was off the graph,
he never was obnoxious;
the early dawn
took away this one,
with the smile that was infectious.
And all the while
we learned to smile,
and laugh without regret;
rain in my eyes
I can't disguise,
why my cheeks are wet.
It came too soon
like an afternoon,
in the total of his life;
good-bye dear friend
love doesn't end,
but, the early dawn cuts like a knife.
and now he's gone,
and oh how he'll be missed;
I do not lie
a nicer guy,
does probably not exist.
Quick to laugh
he was off the graph,
he never was obnoxious;
the early dawn
took away this one,
with the smile that was infectious.
And all the while
we learned to smile,
and laugh without regret;
rain in my eyes
I can't disguise,
why my cheeks are wet.
It came too soon
like an afternoon,
in the total of his life;
good-bye dear friend
love doesn't end,
but, the early dawn cuts like a knife.
