(Persistence) The Pest

Indifference spoken
Without utterance
Nary a lip
Did she move
Clear as crystal's
Finest stock
As she cared not
She would not natter
He tried in vain
To break her code
Spreading thin
To gain her notice
She looked elsewhere
Focused there
Her concentration
His appetite grew
From lack of sustenance
Hunger stricken
He turned away
Vowing to return again
On the astounded
Whispering winds of gossip

Thank you Richard

You are very generous indeed! I had some personal problems, a surgery and an illness to deal with, but I think I am back now. I sure do have a lot of poets to catch back up with. I missed you and many others, too. Always, Cat

Hey Cat

try as i might i cant see anything here that doesn't work beautifully. Sounds like she is a woman of few words and he does not possess the true key to unlock her, so can only try the bait of juicy gossip. But will that work i wonder lol? Great to see you back with us Cat darling and hopefully we can all benefit from your many different persona and engaging thoughts and words again. My best wishes to Edge and the rest. Love K

An astonishing ...

work, this. What did you think of my title? I think the title needs a little life ... though as is it's totally accurate as to the content of the write. You've recounted here a failed series of attempts by a person prone to bitterness in the end ... and then a justified taking of vengeance. I'm not sure I like my suggestion much better, but here it is: A Bitterness at Length Justified (too wordy, I think) How was my language use? Beautiful, clear, spare. Can't say enough good things about it. What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing? Perfect (but then what do I know about perfect?) How does this theme appeal to you? Oh, yeah! How was the beginning/ending of the poem? I couldn't possibly write them any better. And thanx so much, Chuck

Hi Chuck!

Thanks for you indepth critique of my poem. The title is a problem... I may need to think about it for awhile. Sheesh, I'm really bad at titles, that is my weakest area. Thanks for your welcome suggestion and your upbeat support. Always, Cat

A couple other ...

title possibilities come to mind: The Pest A Promise of Harm Inappropriate Pressures A Failure to Read Obsession Oops! I said a couple, didn't I? And here I've listed, by my count, five. (Sorry about that.) Chuck

Thank you so much for the welcome back! It is great to be back. Thank you for the kind response to my poem. The title suggestion is very welcome. It ties with two other suggestions. I think I am going to have to call in a tie breaker for this one, lol! Always, Cat

reply to your poem : persistence

hi! i think you blend the tones and the voice inflections rather well. this is a moving poem the title falls a little flat , though it says what the poem is about rather well rhythm can be improved in just about any poem, an endless effort, the opening line and the last line are both sporting too much effort, i mean flow with your words, don't try too hard, you write fine. I am new here , i hope it is okay to be honest with opinion, i would appreciate the same for my poems , if i get to write any. poets block you know :(

Hello tictactoe!

Your honest opinion is just fine and very welcome here. Welcome to the site and I hope your poet's block lifts soon! I'm working on a new title, I've had three suggestions that I really like, now I need to choose one. Hope to hear from you again soon. Always, Cat

Hello Anni

It is very nice to meet you! Thank you for the nice things you wrote about my poem! I also write dark poetry from an alter ego called "Edge" but it isn't for everyone. However it is highly emotive, too. Always, Cat

Cat,

it has been said by others here: A wonderful poem! You have crafted a beauty here. Whenever I read one of your pieces, I can see images, which I regard as proof that a poem "works" (as Keith has put it). Yours, ~Nina

Persistence

is all, said Rilke! and persisted you have in this curious little art form. what i love here is the narrative flow which turns the reader's head, as though one is unable to look away; i may be wrong here, but the image i had was of a man desperately trying to get a bit of gossip from the woman in the poem. right or wrong, great job!

A welcome home hug to you.

A welcome home hug to you. The poem is engrossing and it took me, unsuspecting, around a corner. I love when that happens. Thank you. ~A "You begin saving the world by saving one person at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics." Charles Bukowski
