so,

I ask in all
seriousness,

what is it male
Muslim martyrs do
for the balance of
their eternities
in heaven ...

once they have
deflowered their
allotted virgins?

good question though feels somehow dangerous, shame about that

This is a good question though feels somehow dangerous. It is a shame we are not free to enquire without such fear I think, that smells of bullying (& saying that feels dangerous). It would be more shame if the reasons for destroying the lives of others was purely for that reward, I hope that this might just be a simplified version of the reaoning, but yes it is a most interesting question... & brave I feel. As a poem, it is eclipsed by the question (& the politics) in my mind, but beautifully crafted as all of your work is. Thank you

I understand about the bravery. And --- and I get so tired of religionists (of whatever stripe) who feel so personally insulted by verbal assaults (however angled) on their beliefs. Because, after all, that is all they are: beliefs. So far as I know, Islam is the only religion now extant that proscribes death to any who criticize (or poke at in fun) any aspect of it. It's a shame what mindless fallout came from the Denmark pecadillo. It's a shame that Islamic World beliefs (especially those of extremists) are so irreconcilable with Western worldview/sensitivities/sensibilities. It's a shame that such horrific intolerance is embedded within a belief system that demands so much of so many. I could talk about other religions, too. But this piece focuses on just this one. Albeit sideways. Thanx again, Chuck

Truly snorted my coffee chuckling when I read this.

In the light of following comments though, having just finished Philosophy 105, Values and Beliefs, and read several pieces by modern practicing Muslims, got to say, if you read the Koran, or Bible or Bhagavad Vita or most religious texts they are horrid, but it ain't the way good people practice their beliefs, of any religion. Oh, most religion is irrelevant (see my blog "Just thought I'd post this essay I wrote for Phil 105- Values and beliefs"). Don't know why I am rambling on. I know I am not telling you anything new. Just really wanted to say I am just as timorous as you both suggested of offending fundamentalist Christians as Muslims. cheers, Jess Forever unwrapping the eternal present.
