Reckless Angels

Reckless angels crash on splintered wings,
Tattered white robes of silk, lustrous as the
Silvery moon in the violent firmament
Where broken eyed vagabonds are like the
Jesting masks when you're on your knees,
Grieving tears on the blood stained silk
Sweeping the morose black petals on the
Marble floors. Were your wings ripped
Viciously from your innocent back?
Seen you crumpled on the floor
Head in your hands, desperation of the
Howling, waning moon emblazon in the dark...
But I'm too far away to hold you now
Too far away to be your place to fall.

Darkened nights shroud the glistening reckless angels,
Their ebony shadows slipping through the
Lace scarves hanging delicately from the ceiling.
If I could be the reckless angel to gently take you
From the hands that hurt you again and again,
Drape the night around you like a velvet cloak upon
Your shaking shoulders. You lied broken
In the hallway, torn up feathers, bloodied and frayed
From the wings he tore relentlessly from you
And the blood stains on his hands
Tell me everything. The fascination I once knew
Endowed in your sweet eyes is gone...
Skies of reckless angels, red smeared
Are no longer astounding...

Upon the broken glass wandered the reckless angel
Until her bare feet bled, until the pain watching you
Writhe in his torture put her to her hands and knees,
Scrambling and pawing a thousand miles to get to you...
My wings are blood stained too...
And I feel every slash you slice in your wrist
Blood trickling to the floor in the occulted moonlight.
I let it fall into my hands, dripping through my fingers
Whispering I don't know how to help you now.
Surrounded by the reckless angels, protective as
Moonbeams, the light in the blackened shadows
Watched you crash on splintered wings
And you lied there bleeding...

There was no way I could get to you...
Too far away to hold you now...too far away
Too be your reckless angel...

Reckless angels may

Reckless angels may sometimes fall, but they always get back up again and when they do, they pick us up when we also fall and lead us where they may. I've always loved angel based poems. This is the first one i've seen in dark imagery, and it's amazing. I'm betting the reckless angel's ward will find his way to his wreckless angel. Mike.

Thanks Mikey

Again, thanks. This is my only angel based poem, though over the years it has been rewritten into several versions, this one being my favorite so far. Never could do the cliche angels of light, grace and mercy in white clouds and such...always gotta twist it somehow right? Lol. I sure hope the reckless angel finds his way. I truly do. I'll be hoping on the wishing stars for my dear friend. Peace N Love Katie

Just the concept of reckless angels already sells me on this.

The last stanza belies the fact that you yourself are a reckless angel, I feel like one too. We don't always make it on time, and even when we do we can be powerless to help, yet it is vital that we be. Totally related to this and it is gorgeously gothicly written, cheers, Jess Forever unwrapping the eternal present.

Hey Jess

Thanks so much for reading. No one is perfect, and to think otherwise is a great overstatement of people in general. Being forced to sit from a distance and watch someone writhe in their pain is hard too...it's just unbelievable how helpless it makes you feel. Helplessness can be like recklessness- too late to help , too far away to be of any help, like scrambling for one last chance, one more dance in the arms of the angel... Anyways, thanks again. Peace n Love' Katie

Dear Katie,

You are moving along nicely. You have given thought to distancing from over used words and have limited the use articles. There is a touch too much repetition, although you almost get away with it because it is like ritual incantations. Perhaps you fret that your own drawn reflection will not be seen if you do not force feed the reader. Readers are like voters: deserving of more credit than is generally given. We are very impressed with the progress, Katie of Canada. Adieu, Anasta Zia and bjp

Katie,

the imagery of your pieces is always strong, but I think you have even stepped it up here. Love the pictures this one brings to my mind, they are so vivid! A few spellings were a little odd, please check again. Also, wouldn't "And you lay there bleeding" read better? Let me know what you think. Yours, ~Nina

Katie...

I too loved this angelic piece... and it is written very well... is the caps at the beginning of each line meant to be there or is it "Word" demanding it... you can go to options and correct it if it is. The only reason I mention it is because there are many places where the sentence, or thought isn't quite completed but a cap is placed at the beginning anyway... a small thing but it helps the reader stay with you. I've noticed in some of your writes the tendency to over-describe subjects in lines, leaving the reader with an accurate description but little room for engagement, but this one is done very well, easy to relate to and a very enjoyable read... Hey Richard,

Thanks so much for reading this piece, glad you enjoyed it. Actually, the caps at the beginning of the lines was something I was taught way back when I was taught poetry. Just kinda became habit. But I will take your suggestion to mind, it's a good one. I've been told lots that I tend to over describe. Sometimes I do it without realizing, but that means I need to go back over my pieces realistically and take out the unneeded descriptions. Thanks again, appreciate the feedback! Peace n Love Katie

YOU HAVE UNLEASHED A BATTERY

YOU HAVE UNLEASHED A BATTERY OF TORMENTING LINES IN THIS POEM...ITS AS IF YOU HAVE RENDERED THE READER INCAPABLE OF PULLING A CHILD FROM AN ONCOMING BUS. I HAD TO READ IT TWICE TO APPRECIATE THE DEPTH OF YOUR WORDS...THE BLEEDING, THE PAIN, THE RECKLESS DISREGARD FOR LIFE IS SO VIVIDLY EXPRESSED IN EVERY STANZA...IN FACT, ITS DOWN RIGHT SCAREY....NICELY DONE.
